Four Buddhist monks of varying ages sit in meditative posture on an intricately patterned floor, their vibrant saffron robes contrasting against the richly decorated temple walls adorned with scenes from the life of Buddha. Inside this sacred space at Nokor Thum near Siem Reap, Cambodia, these devoted practitioners continue an unbroken spiritual tradition dating back over a millennium, maintaining ancient rituals of blessing and merit-making that remain central to Khmer cultural identity despite centuries of political upheaval and the devastating Khmer Rouge period when an estimated 90 percent of Cambodia's Buddhist monks were killed or forced to disrobe.
