Sunlight gleams off the massive white dome and golden spire of Boudhanath Stupa as it creates a perfect circular sanctuary amid the dense, irregular patchwork of Kathmandu's urban sprawl. Built in the 6th century and standing as one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world, this UNESCO World Heritage site serves as the religious center for Nepal's Tibetan community, where thousands of pilgrims perform clockwise circumambulations (kora) around its base daily, spinning prayer wheels and reciting mantras in an unbroken tradition spanning centuries.
