Serpentine waterways carve through the earthy mudflats of Morro Bay State Marine Reserve, their silver threads contrasting with the textured terrain below the blue-tinged coastal mountains behind Los Osos and Baywood Park. These dynamic intertidal zones, constantly reshaped by the ebb and flow of twice-daily tides, represent one of California's last relatively undisturbed wetland ecosystems, protecting shorelines and filtering pollutants while supporting rich biodiversity.
