A 17th-century cannon recovered from Panama's Lajas Reef undergoes meticulous conservation at the Patronato Panamá Viejo laboratory. This weathered naval gun, bearing English weight markings and proofing stamps, likely belonged to Henry Morgan's flagship Satisfaction which sank in 1671. Recovered by Fritz Hanselmann's team from Texas State University, the cannon represents rare tangible evidence of Morgan's historic raid. Conservation experts now work to stabilize and preserve this artifact—a process that will eventually allow it to be displayed near the ruins of the very Panama City that Morgan's men sacked centuries ago.
