A fire clownfish (Amphiprion melanopus) peers cautiously from within the bulbous tentacles of its host bubble-tip anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) in the vibrant coral reefs surrounding Efate Island, Vanuatu. This remarkable mutualistic relationship, evolved over millions of years, allows the clownfish to develop immunity to the anemone's venomous stinging cells while providing protection from predators and a safe place to lay eggs, while the anemone benefits from the fish's aggressive defense of territory and nutrients from its waste.
