A weathered cedar mortuary pole stands sentinel in the moss-covered forest of SGang Gwaay, its carved ancestral figures bearing witness to centuries of Pacific storms and changing seasons. This remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site on Anthony Island, Haida Gwaii (formerly Queen Charlotte Islands), preserves one of the last visible collections of traditional Haida village architecture and mortuary poles, documenting the artistic and cultural achievements of the Haida Nation who have inhabited these islands for over 10,000 years.
