About the Course
The first day of the course will begin with snacks and tea at 8:30 am at the “Photo’s Do not Bend” gallery (ph 208-727-3686) in downtown Ketchum. At 9 am formal instruction begins with presets in Lightroom. We will discuss how to load presets, how to create your own presets and how to organize your existing presets. Just before lunch we will shift gears and perform a color calibration on your cameras. After lunch on the first day, we will delve into creating photo montages in Photoshop. This will cover many important aspects of Photoshop including layers, transform tools, layer fx, layer blend modes and using masks on layers.
The morning of the second day will focus on Photoshop actions. Actions are similar to presets in Lightroom. We will learn how to load actions and create our own actions. The afternoon of the second day will continue with advanced Photoshop and Lightroom techniques. In the late afternoon of day 2 we will wrap up the workshop with a discussion of what is new in the Macintosh Leopard operating system.

Who should attend?
This course is designed as a masala (spicy mixture) of digital techniques and is an intermediate to advanced level course on Photoshop and Lightroom. A prior knowledge of Photoshop and Lightroom will be extremely helpful in maximizing your enjoyment of the course.
What should I bring with me?
I recommend that you come prepared with the following items for this course:
-
Your own laptop or portable desktop computer with Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Lightroom loaded. If you do not own a copy of Photoshop and Lightroom, you can download a free 30-day trial version of the program here and here respectively by clicking on the “Try it for 30 days” link. If you do not have an Adobe ID you will need to create one prior to downloading this software. Power outlets at your desk and a wireless internet connection will be provided during class.
-
Your digital SLR or camera capable of shooting in RAW mode. Most of the class time will be spent in the digital darkroom, however some time will be dedicated to a shooting exercise to help you calibrate the color your camera produces.
-
About ten to twenty of your own images to work with during the course. I recommend that they are loaded on your computer already prior to class, but you may also bring them on a external hard drive, CD or CF card.
-
If you need them, a good pair of both reading & regular glasses. Instruction takes place on a front projection screen located between ten and twenty feet from where you are seated. Application of learned techniques takes place on your laptop.
-
And of course yourself, ready to learn and work in a digital darkroom!
